Sugar: The “White Death”?

Meeting News

At the July 23 meeting of Imperial TOPS NE0267, Barb was the best loser for the second week in a row, and Lorna won a little cash in the Ha-Ha drawing.
Barb and Lorna will provide food for the August 9 dinner at the Community Center.

Challenges

  1. Exercise at least 15 minutes a day.
  2. Eat five servings of fruits and/or vegetables every day.

Contests

Judy won the “Shoot Off Those Pounds” contest. The area-wide Fun in the Summer Sun Challenge will end on August 27. To meet some of the challenges, the club is planning a program on yoga, a chapter walk, and photos with the TOPS News magazine at a tourist site.

Programs

96656007Lorna’s program was on sugar as “The White Death,” based on a news release from cancertruth.net, a blog written by author Ty Bollinger. According to Bollinger, in 2012, half of Americans were consuming 180 pounds of sugar each year, compared with an average consumption of 4 pounds in 1700, 18 pounds in 1800, and 90 pounds in 1900.
Next week’s program will be the installation of officers for the coming year.
