TOPS News for June 6, 2013

The 9 TOPS and 2 KOPS that attended the June 6 meeting of TOPS NE0267 included Judy, a returning member. Carolyn and Diann were both best losers of the week. Lorna won a couple of coins in the Ha-Ha drawing.

The Yes-Yes for the week is to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day; the No-No is chips, unless they’re baked.

Karen W. gave the treasurer’s report. Shirley, Karen S., Donna, and Lorna all received TOPS items from Cheryl for meeting or exceeding the weight loss goals they set for May.

The chapter received the summer contest rules and forms for the Fall Rally from the Area Captain, Mary Lou. The last week of June, the chapter will meet on Friday the 28th instead of on Thursday to accommodate her visit.

TOPS Program – Snacks that help you sleep

Karen W. presented a program on the correlation between length of sleep at night and weight loss.
The following is the list of foods that she distributed that MAY help you sleep.
  1. 1/4 cup low-fat ice cream topped with half a banana
  2. 1/2 bowl of oatmeal with sliced mango
  3. 1 slice of whole wheat toast with a teaspoon of whipped butter and a handful of grapes
  4. 1 tablespoon of almond butter or 1 ounce portion of almonds
  5. Chamomile tea
  6. One banana, blended with 1 cup milk or soy milk (and ice, if desired)
  7. One serving Greek yogurt
  8. Oatmeal with banana or other fruit (a good source of potassium)
  9. Hard boiled egg, cheese, nuts, or other protein-rich snack
  10. Blend 2 cups of edamame (immature soybeans in the pod) with a teaspoon of salt and a drizzle of olive oil and one clove garlic until smooth. (Natural source of estrogen)
  11. Tart cherries or cherry juice – keep it tart, with no sugar added.
  12. Whole grain cereal (boosts melatonin) with milk
Karen S. will give next week’s program.

TOPS Club meets every Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Imperial Community Center, with weigh-ins beginning at 8:30. For more information about TOPS, phone Cheryl at 883-0265, go to www.tops.org. The first meeting is always free!
