A Body Needs Protein

TOPS News - January 30, 2014

Seven TOPS and two KOPS were present for the January 30 meeting of Imperial TOPS NE0267. Carolyn was the best loser for the third week in a row, received the Kept-It-Off award and won the Ha-Ha drawing. Barb won a basket of vegetables for winning the "vegie contest."

Yes-Yes/No-No

The Yes-Yes is to continue or begin a second new habit (specific and measurable).  The No-No is eating in the car.

ProteinProgram

Shirley presented a program from the TOPS Book, Real Life, on the value of protein in the diet.
Protein builds muscle, maintains bone strength and fluid balance, and supplies essential amino acids. Sources of complete protein (providing all essential amino acids) are beef, poultry, fish, dairy products, and eggs. Incomplete proteins, present in vegetables, lack all the amino acids.
However, certain combinations of vegetables– beans and rice, for instance – complement each other to provide adequate amounts of amino acids.
Next week Karen W. will give a program on fat in the diet.
