We Need Carbohydrates!

Yes-Yes/No-No

The Yes-Yes is to continue the new habit for a third week. The No-No is cookies.

Program

Diann presented a program from the TOPS Book, Real Life, on the value of carbohydrates and how to determine how many grams you should eat every day. Carbs are our primary source of fuel. Simple carbohydrates include fructose (fruit sugar), sucrose (table sugar), and lactose (milk sugar). Foods with complex carbohydrates include legumes, potatoes, rice, pasta, and whole-grain breads and cereals, which provide calories, vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

If you’re on a 2000-calories diet, you should get between 225 and 325 grams of carbs per day. Too many carbohydrates can lead to an increase in total calories, causing obesity. Not enough carbohydrates can cause malnutrition or an excessive intake of fats to make up the calories.
