Program
Area Captain Mary Lou Beisner presented a program titled “Walking for Weight Loss,” ideas based in part on Leslie Sampson’s walking program. Here’s a link to a You-Tube 45-minutes “Walk at Home” Exercise. Some advantages of walking: It
- lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels,
- prevents osteoporosis,
- strengthens lungs,
- decreases blood sugar levels,
- increases serotonin levels, and
- releases endorphins.
- Buy a pedometer. It’ll make it more fun to walk.
- Pick the right shoes (which should be replaced every 5 or 6 months if walking 30 minutes for 5 or 6 days a week)
- Walk to music or with friends.
TOPS Club meets from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursdays at the Imperial Community Center, with weigh-ins beginning at 8:30. The first meeting is free.
