Red Fruits and Veggies for Heart Month

TOPS NEWS

Four TOPS and one KOPS were present at the February 5 meeting of Imperial TOPS NE0267. Lorna was the best loser for the week, and Barb won the Kept-It-Off Award again.

The week’s challenges are the same as last week: 1) Eat a red fruit or vegetable every day; 2) Do an exercise that increases your heart rate once each day.

Program

Lorna presented useful information on Vegetables: Crunch or Cook. Surprisingly, these vegetables are better eaten raw: beets, broccoli, onions, and red peppers. Asparagus, mushrooms, spinach, and tomatoes provide more nutrients when cooked.

How to be healthier without dieting

from Reader’s Digest:
  1. Take a 5-minute walk for every hour you sit;
  2. Make your bed – you’ll sleep better;
  3. Read for pleasure without distraction;
  4. Disinfect surfaces that tend to collect germs: steering wheels, doorknobs, phones, tabletops;
  5. Watch one less TV show a day;
  6. Shop for a doctor you love.
Donna will present next week’s program, and Cheryl will present the program on the 19th, on forming mini-habits.
TOPS Club meets from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursdays at the Imperial Community Center, with weigh-ins beginning at 8:30. The first meeting is free. Find out more at www.TOPS.org.
